DETROIT - Canadas Kirsten Moore-Towers and Dylan Moscovitch are in second place after Saturdays short program in pairs at Skate America which launches the ISU Grand Prix figure skating season. Air Max 270 Just Do It Pas cher . World champions Tatiana Volosozhar and Maxim Trankov of Russia grabbed the lead with 83.05 points, Moore-Towers and Moscovitch followed with a personal best score of 71.51 and Ksenia Stolbova and Fedor Klimov of Russia are third at 64.80. "We improved on most aspects of our program," said Moore-Towers of St. Catharines, Ont. "The transitions and connections were the things we really wanted to do better today." Moore-Towers and Moscovitch put their hat in the Olympic medal contenders ring last season placing fourth at the world championships. They opened 2013-14 with a victory at the U.S. Skate International last month. Moscovitch says he wasnt surprised to see a personal best this early in the season. "We knew we were on track to get that score at this point," said the Toronto resident. "Were happy with it even though we didnt skate completely perfectly." Margaret Purdy of Strathroy, Ont., and Michael Marinaro of Sarnia, Ont., are seventh. The pairs free skate is on Sunday. The two couples are Canadas only entries at the competition. Later, Mao Asada of Japan won the womens short program, beating Ashley Wagner. This marked the second straight competition where Volosozhar and Trankov, the reigning Skate America champions, have set a short program world record. Their previous record, 81.65, was set last month en route to winning the Nebelhorn Trophy in Oberstdorf, Germany. Their Skate America performance, to "Masquerade Waltz" by Aram Khatchaturian, was a crisp display of big throws and lifts, unison spins and a triple toe loop, and sophisticated interpretation. The crowd gave the Russians a one-minute standing ovation. "We dont care so much about the world record," Trankov said. "We care more about our personal record, about our seasons best, about our skating. "Its our pleasure to skate good, and to have audience love it. When people stand up out of their seats, and are very loud and clap their hands, we feel it. It is more important thing than the scores." Asada skated cleanly and had 73.18 points. Wagner, the defending Skate America champion from the U.S., was next at 68.26. Elena Radinova of Russia, who is 14 and the reigning world junior champion, was third at 67.01. The long program is Sunday night. Asada boosted her score on the fly, changing her planned program content. She had planned a triple flip-triple loop near the beginning, but went with a triple loop instead. Asada performed a triple loop-double toe near the end of the short, upping her total. Asadas high-technical program had a pleasing, quiet flow. She made an adjustment, turning a planned triple flip-double loop scheduled for the start to a triple loop-double loop near the end. Jumps placed in the latter half of a program, when a skater is typically tiring, receive a higher scoring value. "For the past few years, I was not able to perform my best at the first Grand Prix, so I was very happy I was reasonably able to perform a very good performance," Asada said through a translator. "I think it is a very good start for the season." Wagners steady performance revealed her off-season work to improve her difficulty level. Wagner, the two-time U.S. champion, is also the defending Skate America titleholder but was still a technical difficulty level below Kim Yu-na, Carolina Kostner, and Asada coming into this season. Wagners lack of a triple-triple was addressed, and Skate America was the first ISU Grand Prix of the season to display it. Her more mature short program, to Pink Floyds "Shine on You Crazy Diamond," debuted at Skate America with a leadoff successful triple flip-triple toe. When her score of 69.26 was announced, she screamed "Oh!" and then did a little seated shimmy dance. "Going into the flip-toe, I was actually pretty terrified because its a high-risk element for me," Wagner said. "Before I went out there, Rafael (Arutunian) told me, Just go do it, go skate the flip-toe, do it like you know how to. And I just kind of turned the rest off and went into autopilot for the flip-toe and performed it like the way I had in practice. Im happy with that." While Asada and Wagner both impressed, the buzz from the short program was Radionova. She is Skate Americas youngest competitor, and many wondered how she would handle the pressure of the seasons first Grand Prix event. She answered the questions quickly, delivering a clean and confident performance. Radionova is the reigning world junior champion, and dominated the senior-level Nebelhorn Trophy event last month in Germany. She is ineligible for the Sochi Olympics because of her age. "This competition is a new level for me, I did not expect this result. ... I was not nervous, I was really calm and I kept it together really well," Radionova said through a translator. "I think this competition has a big meaning for me." The pairs competition wasnt nearly as close, as Volosozhar and Trankov showed they were at a level above the field. Canadians Moore-Towers and Moscovitch are nearly 13 points behind the leaders. Their throw triple loop was big, but Moore-Towers double-footed the landing. Former junior champions Ksneia Stolbova and Fedor Klimov evoked a Spanish feel in their short program. Their side-by-side triple toes were on par with those of Volosozhar and Trankov. But they lost points by downgrading their opening triple twist lift to a double. Air Max 270 React Rose . Last year, Matt Kuchar closed with a 4-under 68 to beat Kevin Chappell by two strokes for his second win of the 2013 season and sixth of his career.Arcadia, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert will send out 4-year-old colt Hoppertunity Saturday in an effort to gain his fifth victory in the $200,000 San Pasqual Stakes at Santa Anita going 1 1/16 miles. Hoppertunity, owned by Karl Watson, Michael Pegram and Paul Weitman, has been made the 9-5 morning line favorite in the 11-horse field and will break from post 2 with Martin Garcia in the saddle. Saturdays start comes less than two months after Hoppertunity captured the Clark Handicap at Churchill Downs to close out his 3-year-old campaign. The colt pressed the pace than drove to a 1 1/2-length win over Protonico. The thing about Hoppertunity is that hes sort of a one-paced kind of horse and the way he ran off his first race ... he was just training really well, you know, Baffert said from California after the Clark victory. I was just yelling Hold on! I was watching on my phone so I couldnt see it very well. But you know what? I really wasnt worried because about 50 yards from the wire - (watching the race) on a delay - I got a text that said, Congrats. Thats why I really wasnt worried about (Protonico) looming up. Last year, along with the Clark, Hoppertunity won the Rebel Stakes at Fair Grounds followed by a runner-up result to California Chrome in the Santa Anita Derby. Hoppertunity was scratched from the Kentucky Derby just days before the race with a quarter crack of a hoof and did not race again until Oct. 29 when he got second in an allowance race at Santa Anita. WWith just seven starts under his belt, Hoppertunity has already earned $950,675 with three wins and two seconds. Air Max 270 React Pas Cher Homme. Hell get better with age so were happy. Weve got him and Bayern, Baffert noted. Baffert previously won the San Pasqual with Silver Charm (1999), Wooden Phone (2002), Congaree (2003) and Coil (2013). Majestic Harbor, trained by Sean McCarthy, is the 9-2 second pick and will start from post 3 with Tyler Baze again riding. The 7-year-old will be making his first start since running last in the $5 Million Breeders Cup Classic at Santa Anita Nov. 1. Owned by Gallant Stable, Majestic Harbor was second in last years San Pasqual to begin his 2014 campaign. He followed with a fourth in the San Antonio, first in the Tokyo City and third in the Californian before claiming the Gold Cup at Santa Anita. The horse was sixth in the Pacific Classic and fourth in the Awesome Again, both won by Shared Belief. Majestic Harbor has six wins, six seconds and fourth thirds from 26 starts for $674,014. Here is the complete field for the San Pasqual from the rail out: Quadrivium, Mike Smith, 6-1; Hoppertunity, Martin Garcia, 9-5; Majestic Harbor, Tyler Baze, 9-2; Big Cazanova, Elvis Trujillo, 5-1; Baccelo, Tiago Pereira, 30-1; Bronzo, Gary Stevens, 8-1; Salto Del Indio, Joe Talamo, 20-1; Mr. Commons, Brice Blanc, 10-1; Blue Tone, Kent Desormeaux, 12-1; Appealing Tale, Victor Espinoza, 10-1; and Tonito M., Rafael Bejarano, 10-1. ROTTERDAM, Netherlands -- Third-seeded Tomas Berdych of the Czech Republic beat Ernests Gulbis of Latvia 6-3, 6-2 Saturday to reach the final of the ABN Amro tournament. Vapormax Plus Captain America . Berdychs play was more consistent, especially on his serves, though Gulbis was often better -- if unpredictable -- in the rallies. In the first set, Berdych won a 15-shot rally to set up a single breakpoint, which he also won. The pair exchanged words after Gulbis issued a late challenge as to whether Berdychs return was in. Gulbis failed to capitalize on the one breakpoint he had in the match, during the fourth game of the second set. Afterward the Latvian appeared to lose concentration, failing to win a single point in his following service game. The match lasted just an hour and five minutes. "Probably it looks on paper that it was easy, but it definitely was not," said Berdych. Gulbis had won two of their five previous meetings, ousting Berdych from Wimbledon in 2012. "I was more calm, more focused, and that was my advantage today," Berdych said. Later Saturday, Dutch wildcard Igor Sijsling plays Marin Cilic of Croatia in the other semifinal. The last time a Dutch player reached the final was 2003. But Cilic is the man in form, having won the Zagreb indoor last week and beating two top-10 players - Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Andy Murray, on route to the last four in Rotterdam. Vapormax 2019 Bleached Coral .Jeff Green, playing in his second preseason game after missing the first four because of a calf strain, had 18 points. NORTON, Mass. -- Chris Kirk made three big putts and captured the biggest win of his career Monday in the Deutsche Bank Championship. Whether that was enough for U.S. captain Tom Watson to add him to the Ryder Cup team was the least of his concerns. Kirk won for the second time this season. He went the last 37 holes at the TPC Boston without a bogey. He played the final two rounds with Rory McIlroy and outplayed the No. 1 player in the world. And he closed with a 5-under 66 for a two-shot victory in a FedEx Cup playoff event. Was it enough to convince Watson that he was worthy of a captains pick? "I certainly dont feel entitled, or feel like Im a shoe-in to get a pick," Kirk said. "Ive obviously really put myself into consideration, and its something that I would love to do. But like Ive said before, the nine guys that made it are automatic. Those are the guys on the team. The other three? If you get in, its a bonus." Then he looked at the blue trophy next to him and considered what he had just achieved. "Winning the Deutsche Bank and going to No. 1 in the FedEx Cup, and $1.4 million, thats plenty for me for one day," he said with a smile. Watson announces his selections Tuesday evening in New York. Ten shots behind after the opening round, Kirk was so disgusted that he skipped his usual practice session. He was flawless the rest of the week, particularly on Monday in another wild Labor Day finish at the TPC Boston. Kirk made three big putts on the back nine -- two of them for birdie -- but what pleased him the most was his 15-foot putt for par on the 15th hole that kept him in the lead. Billy Horschel had a chance to at least force a playoff -- and possibly win -- when he stood in the fairway on the par-5 18th hole with a 6-iron in his hand. Horschel chunked the shot so badly that it barely reached the hazard, and he made bogey for a 69. "The worst swing Ive made all week," Horschel said. Horschel tied for second with 54-hole leader Russell Henley (70) and Geoff Ogilvy, who extended his unlikely run through these FedEx Cup playoffs. Ogilvy was the last of the 100 qualifiers for the Deutsche Bank Championship. He went 65-65 on the weekend without a bogey. The top 70 in the FedEx Cup advance to the BMW Championship in Denver later this week. Ogilvy went from No. 100 to No. 24,, and now stands a reasonable chance of getting to the Tour Championship for the top 30. Vapormax 2019 Moon Particle. Kirk won for the third time in his career, though never against a field this strong, and never with this much riding on it. He was No. 14 in the Ryder Cup standings, five spots away from being an automatic qualifier. This victory could go a long way toward Watson using one of his three selections on the 29-year-old from Georgia. Last week, Hunter Mahan bolstered his Ryder Cup case by winning The Barclays. Kirk was trying not to think about that, saying he already had plans to be at the Georgia-Tennessee game the weekend (Sept. 26-28) of the Ryder Cup. But he would gladly break those plans for a trip to Scotland for golfs version of the Super Bowl. "I would absolutely love to do it, but Im not going to really base how happy I am with how Im playing, or how my year has gone, on whether I make the team or not," Kirk said. McIlroy, who started the final round only two shots behind on a course where he won two years ago, fell back with successive bogeys on the front nine, bounced back with a pair of birdies, and then fell out of the mix by missing two short par putts early on the back nine. He closed with a 70 and tied for fifth with John Senden (66). Kirk took the outright lead for the first time with a 25-foot birdie putt on the 13th hole. And right when it looked as if he was struggling with his swing, he saved par from a bunker with a 15-foot putt on the 15th. On the next hole, he made a birdie putt from just over 12 feet that gave him a two-shot lead. Kirk, who finished at 15-under 269, failed to make birdie on a par 5 in the final round. He made a weak attempt on his 8-foot birdie try on the 18th. That left it to Horschel, in prime position for at least a birdie. "When Chris missed his birdie, I thought I was going to hit it on the green. I thought I was going to make the putt and make the eagle and win it outright," Horschel said. "But it just wasnt my day, I guess, to hit that bad of a shot." A small consolation for Horschel was going from No. 82 in the FedEx Cup to No. 20, all but assuring a spot in the Tour Championship. Six players moved into the top 70, though none was more surprising than Ogilvy. He became the first player in four years to go from No. 100 to the third playoff event. ' ' '

Pittsburgh, PA (SportsNetwork. Air Force 1 Basse Homme .com) - The Pittsburgh Steelers will be without running back LeVeon Bell for Saturday nights AFC Wild Card game against the Baltimore Ravens. The Steelers officially ruled out their team MVP on Friday. Bell hyperextended his right knee in last weeks AFC North-clinching victory over the Cincinnati Bengals. Although Bell suffered no ligament damage, he was unable to practice this week. The 22-year-old Bell was the second-leading rusher in the NFL this season, running for 1,361 yards and eight touchdowns. The Michigan State product also caught 83 passes for 854 yards and three scores. The Steelers will try to replace Bells production with rookies Josh Harris and Dri Archer. Pittsburgh also signed veteran Ben Tate earlier this week. Nike Air Force 1 Low Pas Cher . JOHNS CREEK, Ga. -- Canadian Corey Conners and South Korean Gunn Yang set up the second straight all-foreign final in the U.S. Amateur on Saturday. Conners beat Denny McCarthy of Rockville, Maryland, 1 up at Atlanta Athletic Club, and Yang edged Frederick Wedel of The Woodlands, Texas, in 19 holes. Last year in the 36-hole final at The Country Club in Brookline, Massachusetts, Englands Matthew Fitzpatrick beat Australias Oliver Goss. Conners, from Listowel, Ont., is the first Canadian to reach the final since Gary Cowan won his second title in 1971. Last year, Conners lost to Fitzpatrick in the semifinals. "It feels pretty good to have made it a little bit further than last year," Conners said. "It was a lot of fun last year and I learned a lot. But yeah, Im just really excited about this year. I am playing some nice golf and I am really pumped up for tomorrow to have some fun and try and finish it off." The finalists earned spots in the Masters next year, as long as they remain amateurs. "I mean, Im already in the Masters and a couple of good events, but Im a player. I want to win the tournament," Yang said. Kristen Gillman rallied to win 2 up in the 36-hole final at Nassau Country Club. McCarthy, a senior at Virginia, won the par-4 16th with a birdie, and Conners halved the final two with pars to wrap up the match. "The golf course was playing really, really difficult today," Conners said. "I had a lot of very tricky putts, even tricky to two-putt to get it close to the hole. Im pretty happy with how I played." Yang, a sophomore at San Diego State, lost the 18th hole, then won with a 5-foot birdie putt on the 19th -- the par-4 10th. On the extra hole, Wedels approach landed on the fringe about 40 feet away and he two-putted for par. Yang hit his approach within 5 feet. "Fortunately, he gave me another chance and then unfortunately he shot me out on the next," said Wedel, a junior at Pepperdine. ' ' '

MONTREAL -- It wont take long for Thomas Vanek to get his first taste of the heated Montreal Canadiens-Boston Bruins rivalry. China Jerseys Online . The 30-year-old acquired by Montreal at last weeks NHL trade deadline will play his first home game at the Bell Centre against the Bruins on Wednesday night. "Rivalries are for the fans," Vanek said Tuesday. "Theyre good for the league, but for us in here, and Im sure its the same as everywhere. Its just about winning the two points. "But Im sure the atmosphere will be great and I cant wait to experience it." Vanek has a reputation as a Bruins killer, with 61 points in 53 career games against Boston. So the acquisition of the high-scoring forward by Montreal gave an added jolt to the rivalry. But the Austrian winger said there are no secrets about how to score on the Bruins. "Numbers are numbers," he said. "Sometimes theyre overblown. "I dont prepare any different. Its just another game, really. Theyre a good team and youve got to be ready. The last four or five years, Boston has been one of the better teams in the league and you want to play your best against the best teams." The Canadiens are 2-0-0 against Boston this season and have won their last five meetings. But the Bruins (42-17-5) hold a comfortable 12-point lead over Montreal (35-24-7) in the Atlantic Division standings. Vanek was acquired while the Canadiens were on a four-game west coast road trip. So he didnt get in a full practice with his new team until it returned to Montreal. He was held without a point in his first two games with Montreal while playing on the second line with centre Tomas Plekanec and Brian Gionta. Some feel he would do better on a more attack-oriented unit, as Plekanec is considered the clubs top defensive centre even if he can also contribute offensively. "Weve got to be good in our own zone and Plekanec is very good in all zones," said Vanek. "He can make plays. Hes great in faceoffs, great defensively, but at the same time, were expected to produce. "At least thats what Im expecting of myself." Coach Michel Therrien plans to keep the line together, at least for now. "It takes time for players to adapt to new teammates," said Therrien. "I want to be patient. I think that combination can work." Tuesdays session, which lasted more than an hour at the Bell Centre, saw goalie Carey Price take part in a full practice for the first time since leading Canada to gold at the 2014 Winter Olympics. Price aggravated a suspected groin injury in his first practice after the Sochi Games. Therrien said Price wont dress for the Boston game but will be re-evaluated at the end of the week. That opens the possibility of playing Saturday at home against Ottawa. Therrien also said Francis Bouillon, who has sat out the last seven games, will play. Montreal is hurting on defence with veteran Josh Gorges out at least four weeks with a fractured left hand. Gorges was hurt while blocking a shot during a 4-3 win over Toronto on March 1. He played the first two games of Montreals road trip but then was sent home to have his hand re-examined. Gorges said the original fracture was considered stable, so he could continue playing. But something happened during a win in Anaheim that made it unstable. "At that point, they felt it was best to get it fixed," he said. "Potentially, it might not have been able to heal at all so they decided to have it fixed now and have me back ready by the end of the year." He said playing through the injury was difficult, but possible. "I was able to do what I needed to contribute," he said. "Certain aspects were tough. "Grabbing my stick. Grabbing the puck if I needed to clear it on the penalty kill. But I was still able to make passes, receive passes. As long as I wasnt hurting the team, I was able to go." "I did not eat well last night.CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Al Jefferson knows few people will be giving the Charlotte Bobcats a chance to upset the Miami Heat in the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs. That doesnt matter to the veteran centre. "They didnt give us a chance in October, if you remember," Jefferson said. "We were going to be last in the league, right? So we dont worry about what is said outside of these walls right here." The Bobcats defeated the Chicago Bulls 91-86 in overtime on Wednesday night to finish the season 43-39 and as the seventh seed in the East. Not bad for a team that was a combined 28-120 over the previous two seasons. But now there is the monumental task of beating the two-time defending NBA champions, something the Bobcats havent done in the LeBron James era. The Heat are 15-0 against the Bobcats since James signed. "Its going to be a challenge, but its the playoffs and anything can happen," Bobcats guard Kemba Walker said. "Its not going to be easy. Were going to go out there and give it all we got just like we have been doing all year." The series starts on Sunday. "Its going to be a dogfight," Jefferson said. The Bulls finished as the No. 4 seed in the East and will face the Washington in the first round after the Wizards leap-frogged the Brooklyn Nets on the final night of the season to grab the fifth spot. "They are a great transition team with a lot of shooters and size," Bulls forward Carlos Boozer said. "To make the playoffs you have to be a good team, and theyre a good team." After missing a jumper that would have won the game in regulation, Walker scored eight of his 22 points in overtime to help the Bobcats beat the Bulls for the first time this season and finish the regular season with eight wins in their final nine games. Jefferson added 10 points and 18 rebounds for Charlotte, and Chris Douglas-Roberts finished with 13 points after being held scoreless for the first three quarters. Ken Panfil Jersey Store. "This was the type of game we needed going into the playoffs," Jefferson said. "Thats a playoff team and thats a playoff game that we played tonight." Joakim Noah finished with 14 points and 13 rebounds for Chicago, Boozer added 14 points and 11 rebounds, and Augustin scored 17 points. The Bulls came in having won 10 of their last 11 against the Bobcats, including five straight in Charlotte by an average of 22 points per game. And it looked early on like this would be another road blowout for Michael Jordans former team. The Bobcats started the game cold, missing 21 of their first 29 shots from the field to fall behind 33-23. But Jefferson hit a short jumper and the Bobcats made 11 straight shots to take 43-37 lead at halftime. After a back-and-forth third quarter, the Bulls entered the final period leading 60-59. Every time Chicago attempted to pull away, Douglas-Roberts seemed to have an answer. Two nights after a buzzer-beater to sink the Atlanta Hawks, Douglas-Roberts had 12 points in the fourth period, including a left-handed layup off an offensive rebound with 3:42 left to tie the game at 75. After Taj Gibson missed a jumper with 25 seconds left, Walker had a chance to win the game but missed an open step-back jumper from 18 feet at the buzzer. "I had a great look at it," Walker said. "Just missed it." Walkers big overtime helped the Bobcats improve to 20-9 since the All-Star break. "The guys have done a great job," Bobcats coach Steve Clifford said. "We wont think about it right now, but when we reflect back on the year we will. We didnt have a definitive number because I didnt know how good we could be. Its a good group and hopefully we have a lot more in us. It was good to see the locker room tonight. Theyve worked hard. Theyve been grinding from the jump." NOTES: Jefferson was taken to the locker room for observations with a left knee contusion midway through the third quarter. He did return to the game and played the entire fourth quarter. ... With the win, the Bobcats avoided a season series sweep by the Bulls. ' ' '

TORONTO - Anthony Stewart hasnt played an NHL game since the lockout two years ago, but the former first-round draft pick isnt giving up on making a comeback. Vapormax Hyper Punch .After a brief stint in the Kontinental Hockey League earlier this season, the 29-year-old forward from Lasalle, Que., is skating with the Ryerson University team to stay in shape until he finds his next opportunity.A lot of guys havent played a game (in the NHL) since and ultimately, thats my goal to get back to the NHL, Stewart said in an interview this week. But having a young family, I have to play, and play in the highest league as possible so, Europe is where my job takes me now.Earlier this season, Stewart recorded a goal and an assist in 12 games for the KHLs Medvescak Zagreb before being released from a tryout.Rather than wait by the phone, hes been skating with the Rams for nearly five weeks. Its a skating game out in Europe and its hard to sit around for a month or two just on the couch, hoping to go back over there and be an impact player, Stewart said before Rams practice. Its great being out here, the guys are great, no one is taking it easy on me and its definitely a good experience. The six-foot-three Stewart was selected 25th overall by the Florida Panthers at the 2003 NHL draft. His last two seasons in the NHL were the best of his six in the league. In 2010-11, Stewart had 14 goals and 25 assists in 80 games with the Atlanta Thrashers. The next season he collected nine goals and 11 assists in 77 games with the Carolina Hurricanes. The next season was marred by the NHL lockout and Stewart has been trying to resurrect his career ever since, playing for pro teams in places like Manchester, N.H., Nottingham, England, and Yekaterinburg, Russia.Well I would say (the lockout had) a great impact because I havent played since, but thats part of the business, said Stewart, whose brother Chis plays for the Buffalo Sabres.Stewart is joined at Rams practices with fellow free agents Matt Pelech, a 2005 first-round draft pick of the Calgary Flames, and Akim Aliu.Pelech split time in 2013-14 between the San Jose Sharks and the AHLs Worcester Sharks. In the AHL, Pelech had 238 penalty minutes in 2012-13 before adding another 73 to his total last year.Aliu spent parts of two seasons with the Calgary Flames and played in 10 games this season with the AHLs Rochester Americans, where he had four points before being released from a tryout.Stewart says that he wont go back to the KHL, but would be open to playing in Switzerland, where he spent time last year, Sweden or Germany. He has recently changed his agent, which has delayed the process of finding another job, but he hopes to have a new place to play within a couple weeks.Im open to maybe going back to the AHL and trying it out again, or wait until next year to try the NHL, Stewart said. Right now Im looking to go back to Europe and well see.Im confident in my game that I still have a lot of game left… a lot of years left, so well see where that goes. Tottenham claimed top spot in Group K by winning 2-0 at Tromso after defender Adnan Causevic scored an own goal before Mousa Dembele put the result beyond doubt. Valencia made sure it will finish first in Group A with a 1-0 win at Swansea thanks to an early goal from Dani Parejo. BARCELONA, Spain -- Cristiano Ronaldo scored two long-range goals to help Real Madrid rout Osasuna 4-0 on Saturday and stay in the Spanish league title chase while resting several first-choice players for its European clash at Bayern Munich. With Gareth Bale recovering from the flu and Karim Benzema on the bench, all of Madrids attack went through Ronaldo on the left flank. And the Ballon dOr winner didnt disappoint by unleashing two similar blasts after cutting inside to put the ball on his right boot and lift his league-leading tally to 30 goals through 35 rounds. Madrid provisionally closed to within three points of leader Atletico Madrid before it visits Valencia on Sunday, when Barcelona, one point behind Madrid, hosts Villarreal. Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti also gave valuable rest to defender Pepe and midfielder Xavi Alonso to prepare for its visit to Bayern on Tuesday in the second leg of their Champions League semifinal. Madrid won the first leg 1-0. "Everything he tried turned out well for us," Ancelotti said about Ronaldo. "We could rest some players and played a good game, even if it wasnt a very intense one." Elsewhere, Getafes 1-0 win over Malaga condemned last-place Real Betis to relegation even before it fell 1-0 at home to Real Sociedad, while Rayo Vallecano scored three times in the second half for a 3-0 win at 10-man Granada. Osasuna lined up to provide Madrid a guard of honour before the match as the hosts paraded their recently won Copa del Rey trophy at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium. Ronaldo then went to work chalking up his 29th league goal in the sixth minute when he unleashed a trademark blast from outside the area that took a slight deflection off defender Damia Abella before falling just inside the far upright. He looked to get his teammates involved, and set up scoring chances for Sergio Ramos, Marcelo and Alvaro Morata. But it fell to Ronaldo to start the seconnd half as he had the first, with Osasunas outclassed defence letting him again dribble to near the elbow of the area before he launched a shot into the top corner of the net in the 52nd. Vapormax 97 Bianche. "Both goals came at the start of each half and that complicated things for us," Osasuna coach Javi Gracia said. "They are both more merit of Ronaldo than my defences fault. Its true Damia touches the first strike and that gives it an effect, but the second shot is unstoppable." Sergio Ramos headed in a third goal in the 60th and Ronaldo went to the bench seconds later to an ovation from the crowd. Dani Carvajal headed home Isco Alarcons lobbed pass to cap the lopsided victory in the 83rd. Osasuna, which lost Raoul Loe and Emiliano Armenteros to injuries, remained three points above the relegation zone along with Getafe. Forward Adrian Colunga scored what proved to be the winner seven minutes into the game at Getafe from a pass by Ciprian Marica, who left his side a man down from the 37th for a second yellow card. But Malaga couldnt take advantage of the extra man and itself lost a player when Marcos Angeleri was sent off for a second booking in the 76th. "This victory is huge," Getafe coach Cosmin Contra said. "You saw team spirit today. We are still alive." Sociedad added to Betis misery by winning thanks to Carlo Velas 54th-minute penalty kick after Juan Carlos Perez fouled him in the area. Sociedad strengthen its hold on sixth place and cemented its Europa League berth for next season. Rayo rose into ninth place with only one loss in its last 10 matches. Rayo held Granada in check in the first half before Yacine Brahimis dismissal for a second yellow card in the 51st turned the match in the visitors favour. All the matches observed a minute of silence before kickoff for Barcelonas former coach, Tito Vilanova, who died on Friday after a battle with cancer. ' ' '

CLEVELAND - As a former major league pitcher, Jason Bere knows his way around any bullpen. Harrison Butker Super Bowl Jersey .The Indians are putting him in their busy one.Manager Terry Francona hired Bere as his new bullpen coach on Tuesday. Hell replace Kevin Cash, who was named manager of the Tampa Bay Rays last month.Bere, who pitched for five different teams during 11 seasons in the majors, spent the past nine years working as a special assistant in Clevelands baseball operations department evaluating and instructing players within the organization. Francona said the team had several internal candidates, but that Bere was exactly what the club needed.Jason has been with the organization a long time, so everybody knows him, Francona said. Ive known him all the way back to his minor league days with the White Sox. By design, we had him around a lot. We had some tremendous internal candidates that we could have chose from. But starting with Jason, and after interviewing him significantly, it didnt seem we needed to go any farther. We would have been moving people around and that didnt seem to make a lot of sense at this time of the year.Jason is filling some big shoes, but he can stand on his own just fine.Francona didnt hesitate using his bullpen last season as the Indians set an AL record with 573 relief appearances.Bere pitched for Cleveland in 2000 and 2003 before retiring in 2005. The 43-year-old went 71-65 with a 5.14 ERA in 203 major league starts, and was an all-star in 1994 with the Chicago White Sox. He was also the starter and winning pitcher in the final game played at Cleveland Stadium on October 3, 1993.Francona is confident Bere will work well with pitching coach Mickey Callaway. Although Bere was mostly a starter during his playing career, Francona doesnt think hell have any trouble adjusting to working with relievers. As a coaching staff, you have to have everything covered, Francona said. But you start with strong people and you make it work. Mickey and Cashie were such a good pair together. They complemented each other. I think Jason Bere will be exactly the same way. He has a different background, but his ability to communicate with players is something that stands out from the minute you meet him. Lions fans as the club retired his No. 81 jersey Friday night. Simon, the CFLs all-time leading receiver who played 12 of his 15 seasons with B.C., was added to the teams Ring of Honour at B.C. Place Stadium during a half-time ceremony as the Lions hosted the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. He retired in the spring after helping the Saskatchewan Roughriders win the 2013 Grey Cup in his lone season playing for them. Wearing his former Lions jersey, Simon thanked Lions owner David Braley, club management and all of his B.C. teammates, particularly his quarterbacks, for providing "support and energy" along with championships. Simon also praised the fans, who gave him a loud ovation as he delivered an emotional speech. "You welcomed me with open arms and gave me 12 amazing years," he said. "I love you guys." Simon wiped away a tear after his son Gervon, a quarterback with the U.S. Military Academy team in Westpoint, N.Y., delivered a message in a recorded video shown on the Jumbotron. Simon now works for the Riders as a regional scout and ambassador while maintaining his home in the Vancouver area. Leading up to the ceremony, Lions players credited Simon with playing a key role in their individual success. "Personally, for me (Simon had) a big impact on my pro career, and hes a big mentor," said Lions running back Andrew Harris. B.C. coach Mike Benevides said many people dont understand the full extent of Simons competitiveness and compassion. "Ive seen him red hot (with anger) when things arent going well," said Benevides. "Ive seen him also find a way to put his arm around somebody." Benevides said the 38-year-old Johnstown, Pa., native stood out for being cordial and "an outstanding sportsman" while winning two of his three Grey Cups with B.C. "He would compete," said Benevides. AVONDALE, Ariz. Wholesale Jerseys . -- Brad Keselowski rolled into Phoenix International Raceway a year ago locked into a tight championship battle with Jimmie Johnson, and left the track poised to claim his first Sprint Cup title. Back at the track where his fortunes turned, Keselowski is a mere spectator to this years title fight. "Im relaxed, but not in a good way," he admitted. "Id much rather be fighting for a championship, everyone can agree with that." Instead, its Johnson, again, in the mix. The five-time champion leads Matt Kenseth by seven points -- the same margin Johnson held over Keselowski at this stage last season -- heading into Sundays penultimate race at Phoenix. Barring some sort of collapse by both drivers, it will be either Johnson or Kenseth who claims the Sprint Cup trophy following next weeks finale at Homestead. And with that, Keselowskis reign will come to an official end. Some will say he went out with a whimper. In failing to qualify for the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship, Keselowski wasnt eligible to defend his title. But hes proud he defeated five-time champion Johnson a year ago -- a feat only he and Tony Stewart have accomplished since 2006. "To me, knowing the playing field and how it all works, its something I take a lot more pride in than if I didnt understand the playing field," Keselowski said. "Obviously, that team is immune to the cycles that everyone else is, and to beat them is a very large accomplishment in this sport. Whether that was Tony the year before me, and then myself, they are just a great team and it takes a clutch effort to beat them. Im proud of the fact we were able to deliver last year." Keselowski did get some assistance in winning his title from Johnsons own misfortunes. At Phoenix, Johnson blew a tire and finished 32nd. Keselowski finished sixth and had a comfortable 20-point lead going into the finale, where Johnson had a mechanical failure. Keselowski took some of the credit for Johnsons issues, claiming he toyed with Johnson during practice at Phoenix -- a notion Johnson dismissed Friday, "I dont even remember that. What did he do?" But Keselowskis idea of toying with Johnson was never letting up, and running him hard every session. He doesnt believe combating that type of attack is Johnsons strength, and Kenseth would be wise to take that approach the next two weeks. "For (Johnson), I wouldnt want to have to race somebody that is going to race me hard because that is not their wheelhouse. That was one of our strengths last year," Keselowski said. "If I was going to give Matt a piece of advice, Id say run the hell out of him every time you can. Run (Johnson) hard because thats his weakness." Keselowski believes it contributed to Johnsons tire problem at Phoenix that ultimately gave him the points lead. "He drove the car too hard until it blew out a tire," Keselowski said. "You could look at it and say that was a tire failure or whatever. Those in the garage, who know how the cars work, know it was reaching too hard and the failure that was caused from that. Thats that groups weakness." Thats not how Johnson recalled it when asked about Keselowskis version of events Friday. He said to go ask Jeff Gordon, Mark Martin, Denny Hamlin and Carl Edwards -- the drivers Johnson has beaten for titles -- how hard he races before conceding that Keselowski was simply better than he was at Phoenix last year. "We race hard. Thats not a weakness of ours by any stretch," Johnson said. "Last year here, they were better than us, for sure. We worked real hard to play catch-up through the course of the weekend. Sure, we had a tire failure, and, yes, we overworked the tire. We created an issue ourselves. "We love to race hard. Thats what were here to do. Im not the best at putting up the fastest lap, the best at qualifying, the best at topping the speed charts in practice, but look at the fastest cars on the racetrack -- Im good at racing. Thats my sweet spot." What Keselowski has proven to be good at is rankling feathers, and even though hes not in this title race, he has remained relevant in this Chase because of a large personality and a commitment to speaking his mind. So there was no chance he was going to step aside quietly, especially not after Johnson crew chief Chad Knaus last week said that Kenseth is a "more formidable" opponent this year than Keselowski. Knaus made the remark following Johnsons win at Texas, where the crew chief said Kenseth "is a little more controlled. Hes a little more mature. Hes been in the sport for a long time. I think hes just a little more even keel, so that makes him a little more challenging to get off kilter." Keselowski didnt hear it, but learned of Knaus remark later. Hes giving Knaus the benefit of the doubt, but the remark clearly struck him. "Maybe the emphasis should be put on respecting what Matt has done and not disrespecting where Im at," Keselowski said. "Im not really sure what exactly he was trying to get at, so I guess Ill give him that benefit of the doubt. Either way, it doesnt take anything away from what we were able to accomplish last year and what I think we are able to accomplish in the future, even if we havent this year." However, Carters management company, Essentially Group, which also represents Rokocoko, says it is relaxed about the situation because Racings club doctor had filled in all the required documents.Simon Porter, an Auckland-based player agent with the group, said this meant they had a Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) allowing them to use the corticosteroid medication. We were reassured that there was nothing to worry about, that there was no wrongdoing, that there was no case to answer for, he told TVNZ.Its just a therapeutic use, cortisone is a common drug used to treat pain and inflammation.Porter added that the players had been blindsided by the news being leaked. The boys had been told that they had nothing to worry about. SACRAMENTO, Calif. Air Force 1 Destockage . -- Canada played to expectation up until halftime. After that the game belonged to the upstart Americans. Brett Thompson scored a try in the 68th minute and Chris Wyles got a successful conversion to lead the United States to a 38-35 comeback win over Canada on Saturday in a Pacific Nations Cup mens rugby match at Bonney Field. It was the first time the U.S. had beaten Canada since 2009. Canada, which led by 10 at halftime, tried in desperation to get a try in the last two minutes of the contest, but the U.S. defence met them at every turn. "I think we were doing well up until then, but then we started playing poorly," said Canadas coach Kiernan Crowley. "We didnt make any tackles and you cant afford to do that and we cant afford to give away the amount of penalties that we gave away. It was just a pretty poor performance by us." Harry Jones led Canada with two tries, while Aaron Carpenter, James Pritchard and Ciaran Hearn each scored one. Pritchard added four conversions. Blaine Scully led the Americans with two tries. Danny Barrett, Wyles and Thompson scored the others. The U.S. made three conversions and Wyles had four off of penalties. The U.S. jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first half with a penalty kick from Wyles, and he added another moments later to make it 6-0 when Canadian scrum half Phil Mack was issued a yellow card. But Canada came back to lead 7-6 on a try from Jones and a conversion from Pritchard. Canada scored twice before the end of the first half and led with a 28-18 margin. Carpenter drove over the line with a powerful pick-and-go to bring the game to 18-14 before Pritchard dove on a DTH van der Merwe chip kick for Canadas second score before halftime. "They were scoring off our mistakes," said U.S. centre Folau Niua. "They attacked us really well on turnovers. But what I like is that we didnt panic. Our captain gave us a few words and that was to play together." Canada picked up where it left off, striking early on Jones second try of the night for a 35-18 lead at the 43rd minute of the second half. The Americans mounted their comeback by scoring the next 10 points before retaking the lead. Both teams played with intensity around the goal-line in the last two minutes of the match. But it was the U.S. defence that conquered the moment, which ended with Scully recovering a turnover and Niua kicking the ball out of play to end Canadas effort. "We werent clinical enough, its as simple as that," said Pritchard. "We gave away too much ball, werent strong in the tackle areas and our tackling was weak. There was a second-place finish in the PNC up-for-grabs and there were times throughout the game that we could have put them away and in front of their home crowd they fought back." Linebacker Aaron Maybin is calling it quits in the CFL. Josh Jackson Super Bowl Jersey . The Toronto Argonauts announced the decision on Tuesday. Maybin, selected 11th overall in the 2009 NFL draft by the Buffalo Bills, played in two games for the Argonauts last season, including the East final. The Penn State product had five tackles and one sack in Torontos playoff loss to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. Maybin spent four seasons in the NFL, playing with the Bills and New York Jets.  Maybin recorded 36 career tackles and six sacks in 48 NFL games. He was cut by the Cincinnati Bengals prior to the 2013 season. The Argonauts also announced Tuesday that import lineman Jeremy Lewis signed with the team. A 23-year-old rookie, Stroman is 4-2 with a 3.44 earned run average in 12 games this season, the past seven of those being starts. He logged the first scoreless outing of his career on Friday versus Oakland in a no-decision.Baseball season is just around the corner and TSN.ca has you covered for whos in, whos out and what to expect from all 30 teams. Check in every day this week for two new division previews, finishing up with Scott MacArthurs look at the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday. Heres what to expect out of the American League Central in 2014. Chicago White Sox GM: Rick Hahn Manager: Robin Ventura 2013: 63-99, 5th in AL Central, Did not qualify for playoffs. That was Then: It was tough to finish below the Houston Astros in any statistical category in 2013, yet the Chicago White Sox managed to do exactly that in the runs scored category. Manager Robin Ventura was a finalist for Manager of the Year in 2012 but his 2013 team lost 22 more games and avoided the teams first 100-loss season since 1970 by just one game. Going a little deeper than saying everything went wrong for the White Sox, outside of Adam Dunn no one else on the team hit over 20 home runs. For his part, Dunn also whiffed 189 times, third-most in the American League. Chris Sale turned in a solid season from the mound posting an 11-14 record but a very respectable 3.07 ERA as well as 226 strikeouts to 46 walks. From there, the rest of the pitching staff took a sharp drop and one of the key members of the staff, Jake Peavy, was traded mid-season to the Boston Red Sox. When they were able to get the ball to closer Addison Reed he was pretty solid out of the back end of the bullpen converting 40 saves, but it wasnt enough to save a dismal season for the South Siders. Reed was rewarded for his standout play with a trip out of Chicago, direct to the Arizona Diamondbacks. This is Now: The White Sox have a few offensive pieces in their 2014 lineup that warrant some attention heading into the season. Cuban first baseman Jose Abreu who defected and signed a long term deal with the White Sox in the off-season should provide some pop in the middle of the lineup while Adam Eaton could be able to bring a spark to the White Sox attack. Even coming off as bad a run producing season as the White Sox just had, their real problem is going to be starting depth. Outside of Chris Sale, who has proven himself to be a staff ace, they are going to struggle to put together a top of the line starting staff. Which in turn is going to tax their bullpen causing it to struggle. Variations on a theme for the 2014 Chicago White Sox. Whos In?: 1B Jose Abreu, RP Jairo Asencio, RP Ronald Belisario, RP Mitchell Boggs, 3B Matt Davidson, RP Scott Downs, OF Adam Eaton. Whos Out?: C Bryan Anderson, SP Gavin Floyd, 1B Travis Ishikawa, RP Addison Reed, IF Angel Sanchez, SP Hector Santiago, RP Ramon Troncoso, OF Dewayne Wise. Cleveland Indians GM: Chris Antonetti Manager: Terry Francona 2013: 92-70, 2nd in AL Central. Lost Wild Card Game to Tampa Bay. That was Then: To say things were different for the Cleveland Indians under Manager of the Year Terry Francona would be the biggest understatement made in these or any other previews. Francona, owner of two World Series rings from his time with the Boston Red Sox, instilled a winning philosophy in his team and they rode that wave right into the American League Wild Card Game, marking the Tribes first playoff berth since 2002. Jason Giambi, Nick Swisher and Michael Bourn all arrived to add a veteran presence while Carlos Santana took a reduced role behind the plate in order to get his bat into the lineup more often. Justin Masterson had a breakout season which included beating R.A. Dickey and David Price, the two reigning Cy Young Award winners. This is Now: Canadian John Axford has replaced the sometimes-erratic Chris Perez as the teams closer and though he had a rough time during the 2013 season, split between the Milwaukee Brewers and St. Louis Cardinals, he will be looking to get things right in Cleveland for 2014. Santana is trying his hand at third base in an effort not to become a fulltime DH and could add to the roster flexibility the Indians already enjoy with many players that can move to multiple positions. In the end the Indians will go as far as their rotation can take them and there are questions about what they can get from not only Masterson but Corey Kluber and Zach McAllister at the top of the rotation. If the arms falter, the Indians will take a huge step back, right out of the playoff picture. Whos In?: IF David Adams, RP Scott Atchison, RP John Axford, RP Colt Hynes, 2B Elliot Johnson, SP Shaun Marcum, RF David Murphy, RP Josh Outman, J.C. Ramirez. Whos Out?: RP Matt Albers, OF Ezequiel Carrera, RP Rich Hill, SP Ubaldo Jimenez, SP Scott Kazmir, OF Jason Kubel, C Lou Marson, SP Brett Myers, RP Chris Perez, RP Clay Rapada, C Omir Santos, RP Joe Smith, OF Drew Stubbs. Detroit Tigers GM: Dave Dombrowski Manager: Brad Ausmus 2013: 93-69, 1st in AL Central. Lost American League Championship Series to Boston. That was Then: The Detroit Tigers have been the class of the Central Division and the 2013 season did nothing to change that as they won 93 games on their way to a third consecutive title. Their season eventually came to an end at the hands of the Boston Red Sox in the American League Championship Series as they fell in six games. Third baseman Miguel Cabrera picked up his second straight MVP award after posting another incredible season of 44 home runs and 137 RBIs. He battled injuries towards the end of the caampaign and had trouble finding his form in the playoffs. Lane Taylor Super Bowl Jersey. . Max Scherzer turned in a 21-3 season and a 2.90 ERA on his way to earning the CY Young Award. This is Now: An entire season review of the Detroit Tigers and not one mention of Justin Verlander one of the top pitching talents in all of baseball. He had a down year in 2013 finishing with a 13-12 season and 3.46 ERA. It would not be a surprise to see him return to the elite level he has produced since the 2009 season. That means with all of the weapons currently in new manager Brad Ausmus arsenal, the best one might be a bouncing back, motivated Justin Verlander. Veteran manager Jim Leyland who led the team to four playoff appearances, all division titles, as well as two World Series (where they were twice beaten) has called it a career after eight seasons with the team. One weapon Ausmus wont have is slugger Prince Fielder who had become a fixture in a Tigers uniform but was dealt in the off-season to the Texas Rangers for Ian Kinsler. That deal was a move that will cost the team some offence but pay back both in defensive improvement as well as health as it will allow Cabrera to move back to the less taxing first base position. That equals trouble for the rest of the American League. Whos In?: RP Duane Below, OF Ezequiel Carrera, RP Joba Chamberlain, OF Trevor Crowe, OF Rajai Davis, 2B Ian Kinsler, RP Ian Krol, RP Joe Nathan. Whos out?: RP Joaquin Benoit, 1B Prince Fielder, SP Doug Fister, 2B Omar Infante, C Brayan Pena, SS Jhonny Peralta, RP Jose Valverde, RP Jose Veras. Kansas City Royals GM: Dayton Moore Manager: Ned Yost 2013: 86-76, 3rd in AL Central. Did not qualify for playoffs. That was Then: For the first time since 2003, the Kansas City Royals turned in a winning season, finishing with an 86-76 record. The team has shown tremendous growth under manager Ned Yost but last year was the first time they looked as though they took a legitimate step forward. Alex Gordon had a strong offensive season but leading the team with 20 home runs means your team did not hit for power at all. Still there were signs of life from players like Eric Hosmer who swatted 17 homers and drove in 79 runs as well as catcher Salvador Perez who also cashed in 79 runs. James Shields was strong at the top of the pitching rotation finishing with a 13-9 record and a 3.15 ERA and Greg Holland was more than reliable as the teams closer. It was a solid but not spectacular season for the Royals, a team that has lots of room left to grow. This is Now: The addition of Nori Aoki is going to help properly re-order the Royals lineup. He will now hit at the top, allowing Alex Gordon to slide into the five-hole where he can try to boost his power numbers. Omar Infante will also help at the top of the order to set the table for Hosmer and Billy Butler another legit power threat that didnt post big numbers but has the ability to provide pop. They will have to find a way to replace Ervin Santana who signed with the Atlanta Braves during the off-season and was a key member of their starting rotation. Every year is supposed to be the year the Royals finally put it together but 2014 just might be that year after they made great veteran acquisitions to go with strong young talent. Minnesota Twins GM: Terry Ryan Manager: Ron Gardenhire 2013: 66-96, 4th in AL Central. Did not qualify for playoffs That was Then: Sour times for the 2013 Minnesota Twins included a 66-96 record, their third consecutive sub-70 win campaign, as well as saying goodbye to long-time franchise cornerstone Justin Morneau who was traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates just prior to the trade deadline. Joe Mauer once again carried the load behind the plate and saw his offensive numbers dip as he only drove in 47 runs to go along with his 11 home runs. The Twins were not great at the dish in 2013 but compared to their starting staff they were red hot all season. Kevin Correia was the best of a struggling bunch of starters as he finished with a 9-13 record and a 4.18 ERA. Truthfully, the Twins struggled across the board most notably in their 8-20 September finish that translates to a .286 winning percentage. This is Now: The Twins have a few blue chip prospects in their system but those players are a few years away from making it to the Major Leagues. For now they were left with a roster made up of Joe Mauer and spare parts that have been cobbled together from the free-agent pool or left over from the last time the team contended. The biggest off-season move was picking up Kurt Suzuki which will allow Joe Mauer to become the fulltime first baseman and allow him to finally play a relatively full schedule without putting catcher stress on his body. The Twins are a bad team and they havent done much to make anyone think they are going to be much better in 2014. FRANKFURT, Germany -- Bayern Munich has asked the Bundesliga to install goal-line technology despite being on the right side of a wrong decision in the German Cup final. Avalanche Jerseys 2020 . Bayern won the final 2-0 in extra time, but only after the referee did not award a goal to Borussia Dortmunds Mats Hummels. Replays showed the ball crossed the line before defender Dante kicked it out. It was the latest in a string of wrong decisions, including an allowed goal from a ball that went through the side netting. Two-thirds of the 36 first- and second-division clubs voted against the technology in March, arguing it was too expensive, and the German Football League (DFL) shelved the project. A camera-based system costs about 500,000 euros ($683,000). Bayern now wants the technology to be installed only in the first division to "better protect our football and referees above all." Only half of the 18 first-division teams supported the technology in March. Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said it was unacceptable for the referees to be "dragged through dirt publicly" even though they had no technology at their disposal. "This can and should be prevented," Rummenigge wrote in a letter to the DFL, which runs the Bundesliga. Custom Colorado Avalanche Jerseys . He just didnt expect them to be this good. Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema scored two goals each Wednesday night in a 6-1 rout of Schalke in the first leg of their second-round matchup. "We played a very, very good match," Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti said. "We got well into the match, scored two early goals and that opened the game and left us able to counter and to use the speed of our players.Liverpool playmaker Cameron Brannagan may be diminutive in stature but he has heart to match any player, says U21s coach Michael Beale. Boss Jurgen Klopp gave Brannagan his full Liverpool debut three weeks into his reign, with the 20-year-old handed his first Premier League start in the 1-1 draw with West Brom on the final day of last season. Klopp: Team spirit is the key Jurgen Klopp says big name signings are not necessarily a guarantee to take Liverpool to the top The 5ft 9in midfielder, who joined the club aged five, has played in both of the clubs pre-season friendlies so far, a 1-0 win over Tranmere and last Wednesdays 5-0 victory at Fleetwood Town. Brannagan will hope to be involved in Sundays friendly against Wigan and Beale says his technically-gifted former captain is a shining example to the rest of the clubs academy prospects. When I first came here Cameron Brannagan was really slight. He was playing for me in the U16s and hes worked hard and just really kept on going, Beale told Sky Sports. Brannagan was given his full Premier League debut by Jurgen Klopp last season Its very important we keep his feet on the ground as is the case with all of our young boys but were very pleased with him.Hes not really a British-type player. Hes very technical, he can play with both feet and he plays big for a small lad. The most important thing for smaller players is they play with a big heart and dont get overawed by bigger stronger players and he does that. Marko Grujic scored on debut as Liverpool seal 5-0 win over Fleetwood. The only place to watch all of Liverpool FC’s pre-season games is LFCTV We have a strong development pathway for all the players and we explain what were trying to do with them, but I think promoting him and making him captain of my U21s a couple of years ago was also a big part of Cammys development. Its been a long journey, and hed tell you that himself, but its just lovely to see him flourishing and part of the first-team setup. Brannagans versatility will be helpful to Jurgen Klopp, says Beale Brannagan scored a sensational goal on the U21s end-of-season tour to America last month, cutting in from the left and firingg into the top right corner against Sacramento Republic. Stitched Avalanche Jerseys. He has been used in a variety of positions by Klopp in his eight first-team appearances under the German to date and Beale admits Brannagans versatility is a big asset. He can play as a deep-lying player as number six or as a box-to-box midfielder which I think he prefers because he can drop deeper when needed but can also get up and around the box, Beale said. Liverpool beat Tranmere 1-0 in their first pre-season game. The only place to watch all of Liverpools pre-season games is LFCTV The boys coming through the academy now have been used to playing in a three-man midfield for so long, and Cammys someone who likes that freedom of playing in a three because he can float around a little bit.But if you ask him hes not really fussed what position he plays in. Hes happy to play right or left which is lovely really for me as a coach and also good for Jurgen that the players coming to him are flexible and just want to be in the team. As soon as I came to Liverpool it was just different. The people in the city demand young players coming through and they have a massive feeling for the young players that do come through. Liverpool U21 boss Michael Beale Beale joined Liverpools academy staff in 2012 after coaching for 10 years at Chelsea working his way up to youth development officer for the Blues. But the lure of Liverpool was too much for the Bromley-born coach to resist and Beale says there is a different kind of enthusiasm for young players on Merseyside.I spent a lot of time at Chelsea where it was hard to get players through because managers were under immense pressure, he said. (L-R) Klopp, with academy director Alex Inglethorpe, U21 boss Michael Beale and first-team development coach Pepijn Lijnders The staff did a lot of good work there but didnt always see the fruits of their hard work in terms of players getting into the first-team.But as soon as I came to Liverpool it was just different.
